The diplomacy efforts for West Papua's freedom through the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) in joining the full membership of Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) again has failed. MSG country leaders agreed to reject ULMWP as a full member of MSG at the 21st MSG leader summit held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea that took place today (14/2/2018). The topic of this meeting is "Strengtening Trade and Sustainable Development for an Inclusive Melanesia".
According to the reliable diplomat source who participated in the meeting, beside ULMWP has not been able to meet the membership requirements also circulated rumors said that one of the reasons for the rejection is the continuing violence and terror acts perpetrated by the ULMWP military wing called West Papua National Liberation Army (WPNLA) to civilians and the Indonesian security forces. Indonesia itself has been an associate member of MSG since 2015.
"Many times I have reminded the WPNLA commanders to avoid violence, in fact they never listen, their ignorance has thwarted the diplomatic efforts we have been doing overseas, which undermines our freedom struggle for West Papua against Indonesia", said Benny Wenda to the source person.
With the rejection of ULMWP as a full membership of MSG, asserting that MSG countries are not in a position to support Papua independently out of NKRI. They also rejected the ongoing WPNLA violence against Papuans themselves.
"The reclination of Kampung Banti residents view months ago proves that WPNLA is not concerned about Melanesian clans," the diplomat said. Instead, MSG state appreciates the efforts of the Indonesia government to continue building infrastructure to open isolation for Papuans living in remote areas that have not been touched by development. The Indonesian government's speed in addressing the Measles and Malnutrition outbreak in Asmat also shows the government's seriousness in saving the Papuan generation. The attention of the Indonesian government is believed to increase the dignity of indigenous Papuans. Indonesia itself is a country with the highest Melanesian population compared to other Melanesian countries. Melanesian in Indonesia are tribes originating from Timor, Molucca, North Molucca, Papua and West Papua.(nztodaynews)
